Our karate is a traditional martial art using many of the protocol and
Japanese terms associated with a Japanese art. The school uses etiquette in and out of the
class and its forms (kata) are recognized in Japan and Okinawa. The punches and
kicks are all of the Shotokan origin. Incorporated among the hard-hitting techniques is
two other arts, Jujutsu and Aikijujutsu.
The student learns to roll and fall from white belt to black belt. In the middle of the
ranking curve he uses throws to defend from in addition to defending from kneeling,
sitting and prone position. There is about 20 throws that need to be learned at this level
with a variety of grappling holds and chokes.
Aikijujutsu is incorporated throughout the learning curve but is required testing in
the brown belt area. Aikijujutsu uses soft circular movements to control and lock and hold
the opponent. Many wrist locks and elbow locks are used for this control.
Weapons are used along with the hand and foot techniques. From white to Black Belt uses
Bo (six-foot staff), Sai (three-prong instrument) and Tonfa (PR24). At Black Belt many
other Japanese and Chinese weapons are used. With this many curriculums this art is quite
impressive and diversified. It usually takes five years to achieve Black Belt status
depending on individual.
We also offer yearly seminars with special teachers and unique events that family and
friends may attend. Such events are yearly Picnic Party, Halloween Pumpkin Carving Contest
and the Ho Ho down Christmas Party. With a great group of people in this organization you
learn and have fun.
Benefits of Shin Ryu Do Karate are:
Discipline
Karate uses a strict way of teaching and this helps children that are some times a bit unruly apply themselves better. How a student acts and stands such as no hands on their hips or leaning on the walls, and how to interact with others. All this helps shape the student to grow and become a good well rounded adult. Respect
Shin Ryu Do Karate uses the etiquette of traditional martial arts. This includes learning to respect their teacher, other students, and parents. The student learns to appreciate the teacher-student relationship like that of their grade school.
Coordination and Balance
Karate uses coordination to do its movements with balance for its combination of kicks and punches. It teaches one to use different parts of their body, through the forms (kata) which uses a combination of blocks, punches, and kicks, this also helps memorization, balance, and coordination.
Responsibility
The student learns not to miss-abuse these skills, and only to use them in defense of self or loved ones. Keeping the uniform neat and clean, as well as a responsibility to keep the school clean by vacuuming, dusting, taking the trash out, and watering the plants. This develops a connection to keeping themself clean, their room, and their clothes in the same manner.
Self-Defense
Shin Ryu Do Karate is unlike other karate systems; it is traditional in nature, using Japanese words for its techniques and forms that are traditional Shotokan forms that have been around and handed down from the masters. What makes this style different from other karate systems is the falls, rolls, and throws of Jujutsu and the controlling locks and flowing moves of Aiki-Jujutsu. Therefore you have a well rounded approach that is excellent for any type of defensive encounter.
